Paleo Peppermint Hot Cocoa is a “must have” in the holiday season! It is rich and creamy, dairy free, gluten free, and diabetic friendly, especially if you use the xylitol to sweeten it. My whole family enjoys this treat!
Traditional hot cocoa is not a great option for diabetics! This Paleo Peppermint Hot Cocoa cuts way back on the sugar, though, especially if you use xylitol to sweeten it. Xylitol is a natural sweetener, that has a Glycemic Index number of merely 7, as opposed to sugar, which is 100! It also may help prevent cavities. Some studies have shown that coconut sugar is also significantly lower on the GI than normal sugar, so it is a great option, as well. If you are committed to the Paleo diet, go with the coconut sugar. If you really need to watch your sugars, play it safe and use the xylitol!
Before we get to the recipe for the hot cocoa I want to invite you to join with others who are making healthy changes. I’d love to walk alongside you in your journey towards wholeness and health! Jesus said, “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full!” Freedom from food addictions is part of having a truly full life.
