Infused Basil Lime Hummus

Basil Lime HummusI love hummus!  It’s filling, healthy, and a delicious snack!  During the holiday season you may want to dress it up a bit, though.  This recipe for Basil Lime Infused Hummus is easy and tasty, and the color makes it very festive, as well.  If you need a quick snack or appetizer for a Christmas (or anytime) party, this would be perfect!

Both the garbanzo beans and basil add lots of healthy nutrients to this infused hummus. Garbanzo beans are full of fiber, iron, protein, and trace minerals.  Like other legumes, they promote colon health and help maintain healthy blood sugar levels!  One of my most helpful resources in handling Type 2 Diabetes through diet and lifestyle was the book, “The End of Diabetes: The Eat to Live Plan to Prevent and Reverse Diabetes,” by Dr. Fuhrman.   Dr. Fuhrman highly recommends beans for diabetics, and I highly recommend his book!  If you don’t have diabetes, but would like to hear more from Dr. Furman, I also recommend “Eat to Live: The Amazing Nutrient-Rich Program for Fast and Sustained Weight Loss.”  Dr. Fuhrman is vegan, so I do not agree with some of his conclusions on meat, but I still learned a lot from him.

Basil is both antibacterial and it provides cellular protection from radiation and oxidation.  It is also high in vitamin K.  You can learn more about basil in this article.  Isn’t it great that so many of the healthy, whole foods, like basil and garbanzo beans, are also delicious!?

Basil Lime Hummus

  • 1 16 Oz Container of Hummus
  • 1 Tsp Lime Juice
  • 1 Tsp Lime Zest
  • 2 Cups Rinsed Fresh Basil Leaves

Combine all of the ingredients in your food processor and run it on high until the basil is puréed and the mixture is an even green.  You may need to mix it a few times.  Serve with vegetables, Eat Your Vegetables chips, blue corn chipsSnaPea Crisps, and other healthy dipping foods.  Enjoy!
