Sometimes you just feel like a good sandwich! It’s filling and can be a healthy, complete meal on it’s own, or you can add fruit and salad to round it out. In this post I’ll give you some tips on how to make a healthy gluten free sandwich.
Normally bread is not something I approve of, even if it’s gluten free. The refined flour goes into your blood stream as sugar about as quickly as actual sugar, and most breads are full of nasty preservatives and other non-food things. Canyon Bakehouse makes GF bread that is really healthy and really tasty! Seriously, I love the texture! All of the ingredients are real food, not preservatives, and they are entirely whole grain. Eaten in moderation this bread can be a great way to round out a meal! It can be found in the bread section at Sprouts. You can also find it on Amazon, but it is more expensive there. Plus, it doesn’t qualify for Amazon Prime, which means no free shipping! I also don’t normally approve of sandwich meat or mayonnaise, but there are some easy substitutions. Here are the ingredients I use to make my sandwich good for my mouth and body:
- Canyon Bakehouse Hot Dog Bun
- Nitrate Free, Reduced Sodium Sliced Turkey Meat
- Avocado Slices
- Pepperoncinis or Sliced Dill Pickles (optional)
- 2 Small Cheese Slices
- Whole Grain Dijon Mustard
- Light Vegan Mayo or Hummus for Spreading on the Bread (or both)
Toast the bread before piling on the fillings. Serve it with a side salad for lunch or dinner. You may want to sprinkle it with a little sea salt and pepper.
